Plymouth Meeting Mall Redevelopment Traffic Impact Study
Plymouth Township, Montgomery County, PA
McMahon provided the traffic engineering and highway design services for the redevelopment of the Plymouth Meeting Mall, a 1.2 million s.f. commercial facility consisting of retail, office, cinema, and restaurant uses, on behalf of the Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT). McMahon prepared the traffic impact study and identified major changes to the site’s access driveways on Germantown Pike and Hickory Road to accommodate the flow of total mall traffic more efficiently. Completed improvements to the site’s main access on Germantown Pike included adding an additional exit lane and widening Germantown Pike from two to three lanes in each direction. Improvements to the primary access on Hickory Road included both reconfiguring the exit approach to provide more queue capacity and improved internal circulation. The total investment of over $2 million in off-site road improvements not only improved the flow of traffic into and out of the mall, but also significantly benefited traffic flow on Germantown Pike and at its intersection with Walton Road, Hickory Road, and the Plymouth Meeting Mall’s main access. |

Boston’s Crossroads Initiative
Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, McMahon provided the traffic engineering for the redesign of Congress and Summer Street for the City of Boston’s Crossroad Initiative. Redesign provided a tremendous opportunity to link the South Boston Waterfront to the revitalized downtown area created by the Central Artery. With new roadways, interchanges and continuing development, traffic data was reviewed and regional traffic growth projected to estimate design year traffic levels and patterns. McMahon performed transportation analysis using Synchro Software to evaluate intersection capacity and traffic operations, and worked with City Agencies, abutters and the project team to develop consensus designs for these critical streets. |

Pompano Park Master Plan Analysis
Pompano Beach, Broward County, Florida
Prior to receiving approval for a new, 1,500-slot-machine casino, the
City of Pompano Beach required a traffic study of the overall master plan for
the 200-acre Pompano Park Racetrack facility. McMahon analyzed future traffic
conditions at the time of project buildout and determined that, while no roadway
improvements were immediately required, a significant roadway widening project
would be needed to serve the facility at project completion. As a result of
this analysis, the City of Pompano Beach approved the casino’s opening, and the
client authorized the commencement of construction plans for the future roadway
widening project. |
