What We Do - Highways

Mid-Atlantic Region

S.R. 0463, Horsham Road Improvement Project

Horsham and Upper Moreland Townships, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

McMahon completed the preliminary and final design for this $8.5 million state funded highway reconstruction project. McMahon prepared highway and signal design plans for 3.6 miles of Horsham Road consisting of a five lane cross-section, after completing a rigorous traffic impact/needs evaluation. Five major intersections along the corridor were initially redesigned by McMahon and constructed prior to the corridor itself, as part of a public-private partnership. More than 85 access points for residential and commercial properties were successfully coordinated. McMahon also managed and coordinated the project’s subconsultant for the PennDOT environmental clearance process, as well as, many utilities.

New England Region

Blanchard Road Improvements

City of Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts

McMahon worked with the City of Cambridge on the conceptual design of improvements to a very sharp curve on Blanchard Road. Blanchard Road is a collector facility, serving abutting residential homes, while providing an important connection between Concord Road and Grove Street. The pavement width for Blanchard Road was to remain at 30 feet, while maintaining travel speeds and traffic capacity. Vehicle classification counts were also conducted to assist the City and the neighboring Town of Belmont to approach MassHighway for a Heavy Commercial Vehicle Exclusion. Working with the City staff and the project’s design team on neighborhood issues, a workable improvement plan was developed that encompassed needs for the neighborhood, the City and the traveling public.

Florida Region

SR 858 Hallandale Beach Boulevard 3R

Hallandale Beach, Broward County, Florida

McMahon provided corridor improvements on Hallandale Beach Boulevard from Dixie Highway to Three Islands Boulevard for Florida Department of Transportation. The project included eliminating roadside hazards and extending the life of the existing pavement by milling and resurfacing. Pedestrian safety was improved by upgrading pedestrian signals, sidewalks, driveways, curb cut ramps, and relocating curb inlets outside crosswalks. Driver safety was improved by eliminating encroachments within the horizontal clearance requirements for medians and borders, improving the lighting and repairing areas where water ponded. We enhanced traffic operations by upgrading turn lanes to current standards, coordinated Access Management with FDOT, and upgraded signing, signalization and pavement markings.
