Traffic Signal and Safety Services

Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties, Pennsylvania

McMahon served as the prime consultant on two consecutive five-year traffic signal and safety services contract for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Engineering District 6-0. McMahon was chosen for these contracts based our commitment to quality and our reputation for well-engineered solutions. We also were selected for developing innovative ideas to increase the efficiency of the District's daily operations. McMahon provided all signals and safety engineering services under this agreement, including but not limited to: preparation of traffic signal permit drawings (both new permits and permit revisions), traffic signal construction plans, interconnect/communication plans, coordinated and closed-loop signal system design, specifications writing, data collection, structural evaluations, safety audits, and safety studies. Refer also to our GIS services that were applied to signal asset management.

New England Region

Route 27 Signal Improvements

Walpole, Norfolk County, Massachusetts

McMahon designed improvements at four signalized intersections along Route 27 in Walpole, Massachusetts, including the intersection with Route 1. McMahon prepared all initial traffic studies relating to site development for a supermarket and determined the scope of the improvements. Roadway and signal improvements were privately funded, and included roadway widening, and coordinated signal systems. Additional drainage improvements were funded by the Town of Walpole to address existing deficiencies and were incorporated into this project. We worked closely with the Town and MassHighway to incorporate their review comments as well as local residents’ concerns.

Florida Region

Del Prado Boulevard Extension

City of City of Cape Coral, Lee County, Florida

The existing 2-lane corridor of Del Prado Boulevard is proposed to be widened, over this 5-mile segment to be a 4-lane corridor, with multiple signalized intersections, a divided landscaped median with multiple left-turn and right-turn lanes. McMahon is providing the expertise for three traffic signalized intersections, including video detection and corridor interconnection. As part of the expanding ITS/Signal Control in the County of Lee, these intersections will be added to the network. Of major importance is the modernization of the existing signalized intersection of SR 78, Pine Island Road. The intersection is currently signalized, and the support structure is a massive sign-type truss spanning the roadway. This intersection is in horizontal curve, and being upgraded for safety purposes. McMahon evaluated the benefit of replacing the intersection with a truss, or modernizing with multiple mast arms, for improved driver visibility. After redesigning the intersection and coordinating with the County and the FDOT, it was determined the mast arm configuration would be an improvement to the intersection, and would also provide enhancements to the video detection capabilities.
